The Center was established by King Abdulaziz University in 2014, earlier known as Geological Hazards Research Unit. Earlier to 2014, the center was a unit operated under the Faculty of Earth Sciences. The center now Functions under the activities of the Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research.

Over the years the center has become a driving force for research and consulting in the field of natural hazards in the Kingdom. Due to its rapid growth and expertise, the center opened doors for various international universities and organizations to explore possible Geohazards through collaboration and cooperation in the Kingdom.
